Praying Mantis

There's one staring at me right now. It's hanging upside down on the other side of the window in my office.

I haven't seen one of these critters since I was a kid. I'm getting a severe case of the creeps because this thing keeps staring at me through the window.

I decided to do a little praying mantis research and found a disturbing tidbit I want to share with you. It seems that the mating ritual can be a hazardous endeavor for male praying mantisess (sp). That's because on some occasions the female ends up eating the male at the end of the evening. It didn't say anything about this tragic turn of events being related to performance issues or her failed attempts to get the male to consider taking enhancement medication. Perhaps the guy just forgot to take the garbage out or fell asleep on the couch again while watching football instead of cleaning the garage.

This thing is still staring at me and now it's swaying back and forth. Excuse me for a minute....**Yeah, right! Like I'm going to be attracted to that. Go away evil insect!**

I have a solution. The males should just buy the females dinner first. Problem solved!

Jodi

I just received sad news that Jodi Wharram passed away. I thought someone should say something...

I first met Jodi a few years ago when we all got together for lunch while I was in Michigan for a baseball tournament. It was a chance for my family and I to meet the "rabbit crew" and to pick up my autographed rabbit hat. I remember how nice Jodi was even though I got her name wrong, and how much all of us laughed during that lunch.

The next time I saw Jodi was at Dee and Jim's wedding. I remember sitting with her at the reception and talking about family, careers and other life experiences. I liked her a great deal and appreciated that she really tried to get to know me and helped me feel like I was "one of the gang."

After the wedding, I would occasionally receive e-mails from Jodi asking how I was doing or when she just wanted to say "Hi." I was going through a tough time in my life about a year ago and I shared this with Jodi. She would send e-mails after that encouraging me to hang in there, and she always remembered to ask about my kids.

The last e-mail I received from Jodi was about a week ago. She wanted to congratulate me on my upcoming marriage and the news about my promotion. Unfortunately, with all the other things going on in my life I never got a chance to write back and thank her for caring enough about me to send a message. I'm sure there is a lesson to be learned in this...I'll let each of you determine what that lesson is.

I didn't know Jodi as well nor as long as most of you. But, I do know that she was a human being... a caring person... a friend and my life was enriched by knowing her for the short time that I did. I hope Jodi knew how much I appreciated her friendship.

I'm sorry Jodi that I never had a chance to answer your last e-mail. Thank you for caring about me and for being a good friend. My thoughts and prayers are with your family and the people who love and care about you.

God Bless You.
