I've been noticing a gas smell around my driveway every once in a while for the last week or so. Two days ago, Jim and I went to buy groceries, and as we walked to the car, I said, "Do you smell gas? How do you not smell gas?!" But, I let it drop - maybe it was just his truck? Who knows.
So, I am on my way home from class last night and as I approach my street, I notice a big fire truck with flashing lights blocking the entry to my street. Well, there are lots of old people on the street - maybe something happened to one of them. I'll just go around from the other side. As I get to the other side, I notice that there are 2 more trucks on the street and the entrance is blocked off. I also notice that some of the firefighters are taking their gear off, so I park on a side street and walk over and ask if I'm allowed to go home. I'm told that as soon as the big rig goes by I can drive past. Then he asks where I live. I say that I live in the center of the street. He asks what my address is, so I tell him. Then, he tells me that I live next door to where they thought the problem was.
Nice, huh? So, I get home and Jim tells me that he was told (by the little old ladies across the street) that they were considering evacuating our street.
Here's my confusion: I guess the firefighters knocked on the door of the house where the leak was apparently coming from and no one was home. Did they just decide it wasn't a problem? Did they do some magic tests and discover that there is not a leak?
Jim immediately starts asking questions about our home insurance just in case the neighbor's house blows up and takes part of ours with it. What a happy thought...
good thing its not the summer bbq season
You had me at, "Do you smell gas?" Must be tough working next to Mike all day long.
Posted by: Jeff at February 2, 2005 04:28 PMPerhaps someone was preparing a prosciutto and asparagus sandwich. I understand that combining these two ingredients can cause gas.
Posted by: haywood at February 2, 2005 04:31 PMDid Mike ask you to pull his finger?
Posted by: haywood at February 2, 2005 04:34 PMSo...How come you didn't say anything to me when We were visiting Sunday? Don't pull Mike's finger. It's a trick.
It didn't occur to me to say anything. It wasn't until Monday night that I really noticed it again. Then, Tuesday is when the firetrucks arrived...
No pulling fingers!
