Has anyone seen these things yet? I may have just bought one...I'm not sure how that happened, but it did.
After checking many sites, it appeared that Circuit City had the quickest delivery method: 3-9 days. Amazon had a 30-40 day waiting period and Apple was 2-3 weeks. It's crazy!
Check it out: http://www.apple.com/ipodshuffle/
Posted by dee at January 18, 2005 12:04 PMI still can't bring myself to follow the trend with the iPod series and all of it's different flavors.
I still use my Rio Player for working out which is CD based. I burn a CD with about a couple hundred songs and I'm all set. The only problem is that the damn thing skips if I try to run and use it. That is where the memory based MP3 players destroy it.
Best Buy had several different players available around Christmas that are like that little iPod player, in memory capacities from 256MB to 1Gig. Pretty affordable and compact, too. Of course, they don't play Apple's iTunes format, but there are ways around that little nuisance...
Posted by: Jeff at January 18, 2005 12:36 PMI used to think the same thing...
Thing is, once you go pod - you never go back. I'm convinced they put crack in them. I'm sure this shuffle will rock. Apple just has a nack for this stuff.
Posted by: todd at January 18, 2005 02:16 PMI name it: Shuffleupagus
Posted by: Mike at January 18, 2005 02:24 PMThe problem with the other mp3 players that Jeff referenced is this: they run on batteries. So, not only are you paying more for it than the iPod shuffle is, but you also have to keep replacing the batteries all the time. The iPod has that handy recharge feature. Very cool!
Posted by: Dee at January 18, 2005 02:33 PMActually, I have 2 sets of rechargeable batteries that are good for up to 1000 charges. So, I never have to buy new batteries all the time. After 2+ years, these batteries are still going strong. I'm surprised, really.
As for the smaller ones at Best Buy, they also charge like the iPod with some kind of lithium deal inside of them.
Posted by: Jeff at January 18, 2005 02:42 PMMy Sony MP3 is rechargeable and I have workarounds for getting tunes burned on the little disc thingamagigs. The sound quality is excellent, it's compact, no problems when jogging or working out. However, I did have to fork over significant dollars to purchase it last year. It'll do I guess. That is, unless I get caught in the "keeping up with the Deanas" vortex.
Posted by: haywood at January 18, 2005 03:26 PMI'm just trying to keep up with Mikes and Todds. I'm horribly behind them, but this is a nice step forward. And, it's pretty cheap! Now if it would only hurry up and get here so testing can begin!
Posted by: Dee at January 18, 2005 04:49 PMNotice that no one has to keep up with me. I have none of this crap....
Although I just saw this show where these guys had something called the "E-iano", ever hear of it?

E-Iano, E-Iano."
At my last company I was the manager for Research & Technology and I had every gadget imaginable -- all free through the various companies of course. I got paid to play with laptops, pda's, blackberries, etc and read magazines at work. I even went to Comdex which was really cool.
But after I quit and had to start buying my own --and keeping up with everything on my own time...just not worth it anymore. Too much $$$ and upgrading. I finally broke down last year and got a cell phone -- and DVD player. Gettin with the 90's :)
Posted by: Jodi at January 19, 2005 02:39 PMDee, Does this mean that you are finally going to cash that check from Christmas?
Posted by: Ray at January 20, 2005 08:25 AMSo Dee,
Have you received an e-mail from Circuit City yet that says..."due to an unfortunate inventory error, we regret to inform you that we are temporarily out of Shuffleupaguses. We expect to receive a new shipment of your backordered item in the next four - six weeks."??
BTW...Happy National Penguin Awareness Day! Let's celebrate!
Posted by: haywood at January 20, 2005 08:59 AMOn the continued thread of Apple and its iTunes/Pod,etc... stuff, I must say that I enjoy iTunes even though its selection can be limited. Last week, I purchased "Passenger" by Deftones. Maynard James Keenan does guest vocals on it and I've always wanted to have the song. Thanks to iTunes, I do. And to make it into an MP3? No problem. Burn it to a CD as an audio track and then rip it into MP3 format. Apple can't secure every angle....
Anyway, if you enjoy Tool/A Perfect Circle at all and like the Deftones, make sure and check out that track. Good stuff.
Posted by: Jeff at January 20, 2005 01:57 PMMaybe I'll cash the check one day...how about next week? I just don't see myself getting to a bank before then. :(
Now, I have not yet received the "extreme backorder" email yet. I better not either! I will be so sad if it takes 4 weeks! It's supposed to ship on the 26th. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Posted by: Dee at January 20, 2005 04:05 PMJust because I wanted to be 15th in the thread....
