On another note, I am playing in a kickball league this fall. Yes, kickball - that sport you played in middle school. It's actually a lot more fun than it sounds. A bunch of 20-somethings and 30-somethings playing kickball. :)
My team is good. We beat the other team 16 to 4. I even scored a run last week! Now, we've only played once, so we'll see how it goes this Friday.
Admit it - you are all jealous and want to play too!
Posted by dee at September 14, 2004 03:47 PMYou know, that actually does sound like fun. Just curious, how do you go about stumbling on an adult kickball league?
Posted by: Jeff at September 14, 2004 03:49 PMKickball would be so fun! Is there room for an audience, can people come watch you and cheer your team on?
Posted by: val at September 14, 2004 04:08 PMWhat kind of food and refreshments do people prepare when they tailgate at kickball games?
Posted by: haywood at September 14, 2004 04:22 PMIt's actually a league through the city of Oak Park. Sort of like Royal Oak has softball leagues in the summer. We just play at the high school and an old man is the umpire. I guess he keeps a watchful eye on the tailgating beverages, but as long as you have your drink in a cup and you clean up, you're good.
Our team is actually 2 teams combined into one, so we have a ton of people! We have a double header on Friday - a game at 7:15 and another at 8. It's crazy!!
Cheerleaders are always welcome. One of my teammates sprained her ankle on Sunday, so she is going to come cheerlead this week.
Posted by: Dee at September 14, 2004 04:27 PMI have been one day behind all week. :{
Then last night, the kickball conversation got me to thinking about playing kickball growing up. We always played kickball in the big field behind my Grandpa's house. And my Grandpa always played with my brothers, sister, and me.
It was a sad realization as yesteday was the day my Grandfather passed away 10 years ago. He would be 100 years old this coming Saturday. (My Grandma is still living and in her 90s.)
He would love to be in Canada with the guys this week fishing. Henry Fonda in the movie 'On Golden Pond' was almost a carbon copy of my Grandpa. I loved sitting in the boat with him for hours listening to stories of his childhood. Imagine growing up without cars, computers, fast food, or so many other things we have grown up with.
I just wanted to say Happy B-Day to my Grandpa.
