I've been thinking about how I need a nice organizational tool to keep track of info (phone numbers, addys, calendar items, etc). Planners are nice, but you have to reenter stuff each year and that's a pain. So, I've become quite intrigued by the idea of a Palm Pilot or something along that line. Any thoughts or advice?
Posted by dee at August 19, 2004 01:14 PMI had a BlackBerry awhile back and loved it. But I just use a Franklin planner now and don't change the phone/address or important info sections. Much easier and less expensive.
Posted by: Jodi at August 19, 2004 01:22 PMbut that doesn't play minesweeper
Posted by: mike at August 19, 2004 01:38 PMI just write everything on little scraps of paper and put them in my pocket.
My phone holds all phone numbers - I don't think I have anyones address... what would I need that for?
Posted by: todd at August 19, 2004 01:39 PMI do love the pocket note, but that doesn't help me remember birthdays, anniversaries, etc. That's why I'd like a daily electronic one. I don't want to have to open a planner to the "birthday" section - I'd like it to just pop up on the right day for me.

Posted by: eric at August 19, 2004 02:12 PMI use the same system Todd does. I keep little scraps of paper in "mu" pocket. "Mu" wife keeps track of birthdays, anniversaries and other important dates, and she's really good at it. That's one of the reasons I got married....I needed someone to help me keep track of all that other stuff.
Maybe you should consider this as an alternative to purchasing a palm pilot. There are other fringe benefits too!
Posted by: haywood at August 19, 2004 02:27 PMIn the spirit of Eric's last post.....

Posted by: haywood at August 19, 2004 02:29 PMEric -- Isn't it a bit cumbersome and inconvenient to carry your computer around?
I do the scraps of paper too -- but they tend to get lost or pile up. I did like the paper printout of a monthly calendar Todd was using at one time - 1 page, folds right up and fits almost anywhere.
Posted by: Jodi at August 19, 2004 02:49 PMI like haywood's idea of getting someone to keep track of info for you. Unfortunately, that's what I am for Jim. So, I'm trying to keep track of too much and I need to give in and get a better system going.
Posted by: Dee at August 19, 2004 03:26 PMHad a Palm, didn't like it - switched to a small paper calendar and then just keep all numbers and stuff in my phone - electro-gadget just wasn't for me.. My boss on the other hand has had a Palm for about 4 years now and cannot live without it!!! I bet you would do well with getting a Palm :)
Posted by: val at August 19, 2004 03:36 PMIt's important you get this worked out. Jim is counting on you.
I swear, you being organized would be no help to my life at all. Honest. I wouldn't ask you to put our common friends birthdays on there and keep me updated. Never. Nope. I promise. :)
Posted by: mike at August 19, 2004 04:22 PMHaywood's Bday: July 29th.
I just wanted to be the first entry in Dee's new Palm Pilot.
Posted by: haywood at August 19, 2004 04:46 PMHaywood -- Sorry we missed your b-day. Much belated happiness!!
Posted by: Jodi at August 19, 2004 05:54 PMDee, you can have my old Visor if you want to try it out. It's probably horribly outdated at this point, but at least it's a free trial. Probably just needs a new battery.

Posted by: Maria at August 19, 2004 06:34 PMBTW - in the morning you log into the computer. You check you "Day's Outlook" and then your done. No need to carry computer around, or spend 300-500 on a PALM.
Posted by: eric at August 20, 2004 11:18 AMI feel that Palm Pilot's are the greatest invention of waste ever known to technology. Buy a Franklin Planner to write things down, and then spend the money you would have left over to purchase a Gameboy Advanced. That's a handheld worth owning.
