So, this weekend I broke my sunglasses. I've always had a cheap pair - but now I'm thinking of actually investing in something nice.
I found ones I like - but $150. Anyone else invest in a nice pair of shades? I figure it would be worth it over time considering how clear they are and how nice they fit. I'm just not sure.
Posted by todd at July 21, 2004 03:14 PMI'm not a sunglasses person. I usually just squint. Even when rolling top down.
I do know one thing though, don't let Dan anywhere near them.
Posted by: mike at July 21, 2004 03:40 PMDon't do it. I had nice pair of Oakley M Frames that I loaned to my son to wear in the outfield during his high school baseball game. I had them for about three days, they cost me $145 and they were almost as HOT as my rabbit hat.
Anyway, they fell off my son's hat during warm-ups, he stepped on them and crushed them. On the way back to the dugout, he hands me this mangled mass of glass and plastic and says, "Sorry about that Dad."
Stick with the cheapos.
You can buy 15 $10.00 pairs for $150.00.
I tend to lose sunglasses too much to pay a lot for them. I lost my favorite pair while tubing down the river last summer :(
Posted by: Dee at July 22, 2004 11:15 AM$8 pair bought from CVS last summer. Still going strong.
Posted by: Jeff at July 22, 2004 01:23 PMThere's always the middle of the road choice. Mine are a $40 pair from the Fossil store in Somerset mall. $40 is enough that I'm constantly keeping an extra lookout to be careful with them, but is cheap enough so that if I did actaully lose them or break them, I won't be too ticked about it.
Posted by: straw hat at July 22, 2004 02:34 PMI like the middle of the road logic.
Posted by: Dee at July 22, 2004 02:44 PMI like the handle "straw hat"
Posted by: todd at July 22, 2004 04:18 PMIt's a crazy world.
So my son and I are walking in the parking lot of a local baseball field after a recent game, he looks down just before getting into his car and what do you think he finds? That's right, a pair of Oakley A Wire sunglasses with Carbon black frames laying underneath his car.
Now, these are NICE sunglasses. I think they retail somewhere between $195 - $205. Jackpot! It's night, there's nobody else around, finders keepers right (footnote: I plan to put an ad in the "Lost & Found" section of the local newspaper, but I'm trying to make a point here.)
So, what to do while we try to find the owner of the lost sunglasses. Should they be allowed to just sit on my kitchen counter and go to waste? I think not. After all, they are so cool looking. Somebody can wear them until their rightful owner comes forward, why not dear old Dad?
So, I remind my son of his role in the recent demise of my three day old pair of Oakleys. Perhaps I could wear the pair he found until we find the person who lost them? His response went something like this......
"Dad, what are you gay? Get outta here! I found them, so I'm wearing them. Wait til my girlfriend sees me in these!"
This is what I get for coming home drunk one night seventeen years ago and saying to my wife, "let's have a kid!" Why did she have to take me serious?

Posted by: todd at July 23, 2004 09:28 AMTodd,
What did you decide? Knock-Offs, Cheapos, Middle-of-the-road, or are you going to fork over the big bucks?
Posted by: haywood at July 23, 2004 10:15 AMHaywood,
I got to see the two hats Todd selected for you which are to be signed. After wearing my very own hat last night, I can say that you will be very pleased with your purchase.
My advice to you, trip your kid and claim the glasses for yourself. They'll really go well with the rabbit hat.
Posted by: Jeff at July 23, 2004 11:05 AMGreat idea Jeff, thanks.
I probably should try this before I place an ad in our newspaper's "Lost and Found" section though. Considering the luck I've had recently, I'd trip my son, he'd fall on the sunglasses and break them, and then I'd have to pay some guy $195 to replace the sunglasses we found and then broke.
I may just go ahead and do it anyways. Who knows, the temptation to accessorize my rabbit hat with a hot pair of sunglasses may prove to be too great and cloud my judgment.
Let's see,
Rabbit Hat.........................$ 54.00
Oakley M Frame Sunglasses..........$145.00
Wedding Gift For Eric............. $ 1.49
This has been an expensive week.
Posted by: haywood at July 23, 2004 12:36 PMI would not call a pair of 150.00 sunglasses a wise investment. Unless they are Martha Stewart sunglasses.
