He knew I had Blue boxers on...

I was at the deli today ordering my grilled chicken salad, with ranch. I have been on a Saltine cracker kick lately so I asked for some extra crackers with it. The always happy deli counter lady smiled and nodded.

"I wonder if they will charge me the nickel for the extra saltines."

Moving through the line of people, making my way to the cash register to pay for my salad, one step at a time of course, there were 15 people ahead of me. I had hit lunch hour traffic.

"CLING - CLING" - The bells that hang on a small rope just above the door rang out as an older gentleman entered the deli. He was about 70 -ish, walked very slow. Maybe a candidate for hip surgery but he opted out because of his age. He had a full grey beard and glasses, some scraggly hair under his "trucker" cap. He saw me in a half stare and smiled at me. He knew I was wearing my blue boxers today.

See, under his half opened, brown, undocked flannel shirt was the top part a very familiar ICON. Yellow horizontal wide stripe, outlined in red with an all blue collar and background.

"Superman?"...couldn't be.....

I completed my order by paying the cashier and exiting the deli. I drove out on to the road and took one last look back at the door. The man had exited as well. The wind whipped up a bit and opened his now unbuttoned flannel and revealed his identity. The geriatric shell of the man was in fact....SUPERMAN.

He was clearly picking up some ham and cheese to take back to his fortress of solitude.

Or maybe Zod escaped from that glass panel thingy he shot into space and is tormenting a small town somewhere and superman needed a pickle for energy.

Very possible. I could be mistaken. Maybe it was not Superman but his father.... Jor-El?

Eric,

Maybe you should considered NOT eating at that deli again in the future. Look what it did to Superman!
